In this course we will dive into the new structure of HTML5 and best ways of using CSS3’s new selectors and attributes. We’ll develop complex and responsive layouts using floats, positioning, and other display values. Students will learn Sass and how we use the preprocessor at thoughtbot with tools like Bourbon. We’ll take a look at how to properly maintain large amounts of Sass for web apps and large sites, keeping consistent file structure and formatting.
Is this course right for me?
We recommend each student to have a basic grasp of HTML and CSS. They should know general HTML structure, how the box model works and how to build out simple layouts. The typical student for this workshop leaves here with knowledge of current HTML and CSS best practices, how to properly maintain CSS files, and how to use Sass to its full potential.
This workshop serves as a good foundation for our Design for Developers workshop.
How hands-on is it?
This workshop is very hands on. The majority of the time will be spent working on HTML and CSS based design and receiving advice and feedback from the instructors.
What do I need to bring?
Yourself and an eagerness to learn. If you have a laptop of your own, feel free to bring it. Otherwise we will provide one for you. We’ll provide breakfast and lunch for you as well.
How many students are in a typical workshop?
We will be limiting the workshop to no more than 6 students.
